Have you also had radiating pain from your lower back into your leg?

Were you then perhaps told or thought that “surely your sciatic nerve is pinched”?

Sounds kind of creepy, doesn’t it?

👇🏼
Don’t worry! Just because the pain radiates into the leg does not automatically mean that nerve tissue or, for example, intervertebral discs are really injured.
💡If nerve tissue is affected, it may also just be “hypersensitive” without showing any structural damage. This is very often the case with sudden shooting pain and in the vast majority of cases it is painful but harmless.

Exercise then helps to bring sensitivity back to normal levels and reduce pain.

Nor can nerves really, literally, be “pinched” between other anatomical structures. They can have less space and thus become “oversensitive”.

But nerves are very solid structures that cannot be easily deformed or “crushed.”
