Osteoporosis therapy

Especially in a preventive setting or in the case of osteopenia (precursor to osteoporosis), therapy without injections to build up bone is possible. In addition to exercise therapy, the diet should be rich in calcium and protein (Kanis et al., 2019). Taking vitamin D can also have a supportive effect (Kanis et al., 2019). In the case of advanced osteoporosis, we recommend consulting the doctor treating you! Drug therapy may be necessary in this case (Kanis et al., 2019)!

Guidelines worldwide focus on sport and nutrition as osteoporosis treatment (Chamacho et al., 2020; Compston et al., 2017; Kanis et al., 2019). To this end, we develop a suitable program based on your bone density and your individual requirements in order to support bone formation with as few side effects as possible. We are constantly guided by the latest scientific recommendations. In the area of osteoporosis, the LIFTMOR studies have shown us that the risk of fractures is very low with suitable training and at the same time very effective for bone formation (Watson et al., 2018)! Training also leads to an improvement in strength and mobility, making everyday life easier again!

Your path to stronger bone tissue

Benefit from the multiple health advantages of a customized training program and work with us on a long-term healthy life with strong bones! Our team of physiotherapists specializing in the treatment of osteoporosis will be happy to advise you! Your health is our focus.

What is it all about?

Group training offers effective and, above all, inexpensive training for people looking for an initial introduction to osteoporosis training. The long-term goal is for you to slowly start training independently alongside the group so that you can work independently and autonomously for a healthy bone structure in the future. Once this has happened, we would recommend regular attendance at the group (e.g. every 6 to 12 weeks) to allow for regular monitoring and to work on the finer points of the exercises.

When does the course take place?

Our group training is free to attend almost all year round (summer break, Christmas break). This means that you come when it suits you. Training always takes place on Monday from 4 to 5 pm and on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 am. If it is not possible to keep all two appointments per week, the basic exercises should be carried out independently, as our bones need 2-3 training sessions per week to treat and strengthen them effectively.

It is important to us that we respond personally to our participants in each session, which is why the number of participants is limited and a short registration by SMS/mail is required at least 48 hours in advance for the next session.

What are the prerequisites for the course?

One prerequisite for the group is that you are independently active, i.e. that you can carry out everyday tasks such as shopping, climbing stairs or going for a walk without help.

In order to be able to respond to you individually in advance, it is also a prerequisite that a single unit (45 minutes) is taken before joining the group. In this one-to-one session, we record your history and, after an individual examination, we actively go through the basic exercises and the course schedule. This enables us to provide you with the best possible support during the course.

If joining the group is too intensive, individual physiotherapy can be started.

How is the course structured?

The focus of the therapy is adapted to the needs of the bone. This means that you will be introduced to intensive strength exercises and impact loads. We will also work on balance and endurance. This combination supports not only the bones but also the muscles to a high degree, making everyday life easier. Therefore, a nice side effect of the exercises is that they help us to stay fit and agile for a long time.

How much does the course cost?

As already mentioned, our course is a cost-effective treatment for osteoporosis and osteopenia. One course unit costs €25. The course is available as a block of 10. Each block of 10 costs €250, i.e. €25 per training session. We recommend that you obtain a prescription for “Group training, 60 minutes, 4-6 people” from your doctor in advance. Depending on your health insurance company, you will be reimbursed €15-20 per unit after completing the course.

A one-off fee of €99 is payable for the individual unit (45 minutes) before the start of the course. With a corresponding prescription, part of the costs (approx. 50%) will be covered by the health insurance company.
