Similar to sitting is the correct lifting technique. The traditional view that lifting with improper technique leads to back pain and/or damage does not hold up with current evidence.

Pain is always a conglomerate of various factors, which cannot be attributed purely to a supposedly incorrect movement.

Whether a lifting technique can be judged as correct or incorrect always depends on the context. The intention, the movement capacities of a person and situation-specific framework conditions play a major role.

However, as always, it is important to take differentiated approaches. Studies that have compared different lifting techniques and found no relevant difference in spinal loading have only used low loads, so no blanket recommendations for high loads (such as in weight training) can be formulated. Thus, it makes sense to move heavy loads with a controlled execution and to be guided by your own individual load capacity.
